Handbell Choir
St. Paul’s Handbell Choir, also known as Strikeforce, was formed in 2006 under the leadership of director, Cathy Cralle Jones. Today, the inter-generational choir includes middle and high school youth, adults in their 70’s and everyone in between! Strikeforce celebrates ringers with strong musical backgrounds and ringers who learn music through handbells.
The original three octave set of bells were given in memory of a charter member, Belle Nunn after her death in 1996. The choir now plays a 5 octave set of Malmark handbells, a delicate 35 tone set of Treeworks windchimes and as of 2018, a now 5-octave set of Malmark tonechimes.
Over the years, the choir has played in the traditional worship hour at St. Paul’s, and in Disciple churches in Hillsdale, VA; Valdese, NC (2013); National City Christian Church, Washington, DC (2014); and Hilton Christian Church, Newport News, VA (2018). The choir has also played for two Regional Assemblies of the Christian Church in North Carolina (2012 and 2016).
With love for God and neighbor, and the joy that comes from making music, we end each program with the same prayer with which we end our rehearsals: “In Jesus’ name we PLAY! Amen!”
